Scarlets secured their third Welsh derby win in ten days as they ran in seven tries over the Dragons at Parc y Scarlets.

Tries were scored by James Davies, Tom Prydie, Dan Jones, Aled Davies, Aaron Shingler, Will Boyde and Rhys Jones in the seven try romp with Dragons crossing for their only try in the dying moments of the game.

The bonus point victory sees Scarlets press ahead at the top of Conference B with 53 points with Leinster in second place with 46.

It’s the Dragons who get the scoreboard ticking over with a three-pointer from outside Arwel Robson after winning a penalty inside Scarlets territory after 13 minutes of play.

0-3

Scarlets hit back with a try a few minutes later with the forwards doing a great job to walk the maul across the line with flanker James Davies claiming the five points in the far corner. Dan Jones adds the conversion.

7-3

The Scarlets put pressure on the Dragons in the second quarter of the first half winning line out after line out in their territory. With 27 minutes on the clock a five metre line out is deemed not to have been thrown in straight but the Scarlets keep the Dragons under pressure with winger Tom Prydie alert to the opportunity and he gets the ball touched down over the line.

12-3

A third try came on the half hour mark with outside half Dan Jones crossing under the sticks and converting his own try. Captain Ken Owens makes a beautiful sidestep through Dragons defenders before getting a great pass out to James Davies before he finds Jones who crosses for the try.

19-3

Dragons are awarded a penalty five metres inside Scarlets’ half and fullback Carl Meyer adds a penalty minutes before half time.

Half time: 19-6

Dragons have the first scoring opportunity in the second half as fullback Meyer steps up for a penalty from inside his own half. It falls a long way short of the uprights keeping the score as is.

With ten m,inutes played in the second half the Scarlets secured the bonus point try with scrum half Aled Davies running a great supporting line inside fullback Rhys Patchell after some fantastic work by Steve Cummins at the breakdown. Jones adds the conversion.

24-6

A fifth try came just minutes later after Oatchell makes a break from inside Scarlets’ half. He makes the hard yards but he’s got plenty of support around him. The ball is shipped back inside, Steff Hughes runs a great support line., The ball is recycled and outside half Jones throws a long pass towards the North Stand. Aaron Shingler is there with a safe pair of hands and he strolls over the whitewash. Jones adds the conversion.

33-6

With just over 50 minutes on the clock and five tries on the board the Scarlets coaches bring on replacements to freshen things up. Ryan Elias, Simon Gardiner, Lewis Rawlins, Will Boyde and Jonathan Evans replace Ken Owens, Samson Lee, Aaron Shingler, James Davies and Aled Davies.

Sixty minutes in Wyn Jones and Rhys Jones join the party replacing Rob Evans and Dan Jones.

The Scarlets forwards walk their side into Dragons’ 22 with ease. A line out five metres out uts the Dragons under pressure as the forward drive the line out across the whitewash with Will Boyde claiming the try, the Scarkets’ sixth of the evening. Patchell adds the cnverison.

40-6

Not content with the six tries the Scarlets go at it again. Replacement back Rhys Jones claims the seventh after a great run from inside our own half. Patchell is evident once again with a break in midfield, he gets the ball to Jonathan Evans who finds Jones in support. Patchell adds the conversion.

47-6

In the final ten minutes of the game the Dragons cross the whitewash after being allowed to play a sustained period in Scarlets’ half. They cross the whitewash and are awarded a try despite it looking as though the ball was held up off the ground. The try is converted and they finish the game with double figures.

It’s a resounding victory for the Scarlets and a third Welsh derby win over the festive period ahead of next week’s European Rugby Champions Cup clash against Bath Rugby.
