Scarlets East claimed the regional spoils, powering to a 26-7 win in a rain-soaked U16s derby at Parc y Scarlets.
Both sides looked to keep the ball in hand, despite the conditions, but it was the East who proved too strong on the night, particularly through their dynamic second and back-rowers.
Lock Sam Williams, hooker Jake Bowen, No. 8 Alex Ridgeway and wing Osian Herbert crossed for the East tries with Impressive fly-half Math Jones, who was a threat throughout, landing three of his four attempts at goal.
Centre Owen Rickard touched down for the West’s lone score early in the first half, but despite showing plenty of endeavour, they were unable to make any further impression on the scoreline.
The East went into the match with the best record of all the Welsh sides with just one defeat to their name, while the West had been beaten in three of their previous six matches.
And it was the East, playing in the blue and gold strip, who opened the scoring after just four minutes when second row Williams powered over from close range following a strong charge by centre Jake Nottingham.
West, though, produced a strong response that saw Rickard hit a superb line to cross at the posts for a try converted by fly-half Rhun Davies.
Straight from the kick-off, West failed to deal with the restart and after the ball was hacked through, it squirted into the path of hooker Bowen, who was first to get his hands on the ball. Fly-half Jones added the extras.
The East had their third try on 29 minutes when skipper Ridgeway collected a pass from a goal-line drop out before showing his athleticism to evade a number of tackles to score an outstanding solo try. Jones was again on target with the conversion to make it 19-7 at the break.
Four minutes after the restart the East had their fourth try of the night when right wing Herbert dived in at the corner following a midfield break from flanker Dom Kossuth. Jones nailed the touchline conversion.
With handling errors mounting as the rain teemed down, the game lost its shape in the final quarter.
East centre Jac Thomas sliced open the defence on a couple of occasions, while right wing Keanu Williams was a livewire for the West, but neither side were unable to find the finishing touches and the game ended with a four-try-to-one win for the East.
