Following the disappointment of losing to Benetton last weekend the Scarlets were keen to hit back and get their Guinness PRO14 form back on track.
After sustaining injuries in the game the victory was not to be for the Scarlets but they fought in the dying minutes, having played the final ten with fourteen men, to secure the losing bonus point.
Speaking after the game Scarlets captain Steff Hughes said; “We all felt like we’d let ourselves down last weekend and we didn’t perform to the level that we know we can.
“The performance was important to us today and for us to prove that we’re a better team than we showed last weekend. I think we did that.
“We’re obviously disappointed not to have won because I thought we played some good rugby at times but having said that the losing bonus point is hugely important.
“In terms of the season as a whole those points are hugely significant, especially managing to secure it when we were down to fourteen men due to injuries. I have high praise for the boys, particularly the replacement front row in the second half. Those last few scrums were excellent.
“It’s difficult at times to come off the bench when you feel that the game has already slipped away from you. They proved that we have strength in depth and showed plenty of endeavour.
“A huge well done to Dan too who nailed the penalty after missing one only five minutes earlier. He proved that he can perform under pressure.”
The Scarlets will return to the Parc on Saturday 24th February to take on Ulster, kick-off 7.35pm, in the first of two home games with Leinster coming up the following week.
Hughes went on to say; “It will be great to be back at home but we have plenty of work to do in the week to ensure that we’re well prepared and at our best for that game.”
