Scarlets get the fifth round of the Guinness PRO14 underway on what has turned out to be a beautiful autumn evening with a kick into Kings territory. Centre Jonathan Davies makes his first competitive appearance in nearly a year and on the other end of the spectrum openside flanker Dan Davis makes his first competitive start in the Guinness PRO14.
Davies didn’t disappoint scoring two tries leading from the front for the 80 minutes earning himself the man of the match medal.
With nine minutes on the clock Scarlets go on the attack in Kings territory. Rhys Patchell spots a gap in Kings’ defence in midfield. A loop pass back out to the left sees Asquith attach the line before getting the ball back to Jonathan Davies who’s covering the wing. Patchell adds the conversion.
Five minutes on and the Scarlets are back in their 22. A line out throw from Ryan Elias is won safely and the ball is moved inside. Captain Davies is there in support once again, Hidalgo-Clyne gets out to Asquith and he fends off a second row on the way to the try line! Conversion added by Patchell.
Southern Kings push the Scarlets back in to their own half. They have a kick to the corner and from the line out throw they work the ball along the line eventually reaching winger Bjorn Basson in the far corner. Conversion added by fullback Masixole Banda.
As soon as we catch our breath the Scarlets are back in Kings territory. A Scrum sees Hidalgo-Clyne get the ball away, a neat switch pass back inside allows Jonathan Davies enough time and space to get himself through under the sticks for a second try! Patchell adds the conversion.
A fifth try is scored as we cross in to the last ten minutes of the first half. The Kings are on the attack in Scarlets territory and winger Bjorn Basson gets a second. Banda adds the conversion.

Scarlets start the second half in the same way as they did the first. Centre and captain Jonathan Davies takes charge, goes on the rampage in Kings territory and puts in a beauty of a pass for winger Ioan Nicholas. He’s tacked but manages to pull himself acorss the whitewash for Scarlets’ fourth try of the evening. Patchell adds the conversion.
The Scarlets get back in to Kings territory with Davies seemingly at the start or involved in every move! The pack put in a massive shift from a line out just outside their 22. They crab us in midfield, hold strong before shipping the ball to the backs. They show their free-flowing flair but a little chip through just goes wide over the touchline.
Scarlets looking sharp on the attack in Kings' 22. We come back for a penalty just outside their 22. Patchell kicks for the corner and the pack drive over the driving line out with ease with Dan Davis claiming the prize. Patchell adds the conversion.
Wayne Pivac rings the changes with Steff Evans, Uzair Cassiem, Marc Jones and Simon Gardiner, Angus O’Brien and Tom Price on for Johnny McNicholl, Blade Thomson, Ryan Elias, Werner Kruger, Rhys Patchell and Jake Ball.
We get back down to the far corner through an O’Brien kick and were looking dangerous.
From the line out Simon Gardiner pumps the legs and scores a wonder of an individual try. He pushes through like a batterin ram and he’s over for Scarlets’ sixth try! O’Brien misses the conversion.
With fifteen minutes remaining on the scoreboard Kieran Hardy and Phil Price are on for Sam Hidalgo-Clyne and Wyn Jones.
Scarlets make light work of their attacking prowess in the closing eight minutes of the game.
Winger Steff Evans makes a statement, after three works playing for Scarlets A in the Celtic Cup, crossing the whitewash after showing the flair he’s known for. O’Brien added the conversion.
The Scarlets came straight back at the Kings looking for a final try before the time was up. The side will be disappointed after leaking two tries in the first half and despite securing the bonus point early on the Scarlets attacking flair was evident to see once again looking for that final try in the last few seconds of play.
Replacements scrum half Kieran Hardy got the score for his side as the clock hit 80 with O’Brien once again adding the conversion.
