Fly-half Angus O’Brien has signed a new contract with the Scarlets.

The 25-year-old is in his second season in West Wales and has made his mark with man-of-the-match displays in the wins over Bayonne in the European Challenge Cup and Ospreys in the Boxing Day derby.

Having joined the region from the Dragons, O’Brien missed the majority of his first season at Parc y Scarlets because of a serious knee injury.

He returned in pre-season and has delivered some impressive displays in the No. 10 jersey as part of a squad challenging for silverware in both the Guinness PRO14 and Europe.

“We feel we are really building something at the Scarlets, there is a great atmosphere in the squad and it is brilliant to be part of that,” said O’Brien, who represented Wales 7s at the Commonwealth Games in 2018.

“Obviously, it was disappointing to miss most of last season because of injury. It has been a case of working hard to come back from that and then look to take the opportunities when they have come.

“There is a real depth in the squad and competition for every position, that is what drives you on. “I am looking forward to playing a part as we challenge in the PRO14 and Challenge Cup this season and looking forward to what lies ahead.”
