Quins, Drovers and Llanelli – Thank You!

Kieran Lewis News

With the final round of the Anglo-Welsh Cup group stage being played this weekend we’d like to take this opportunity to thank Carmarthen Quins, Llandovery and Llanelli for their support.

The majority of the players who have represented the Scarlets in this season’s Anglo-Welsh Cup campaign have been semi-professional players, many of them making their regional debuts.

Jon Daniels, Scarlets General Manager of Rugby said; “Without the support of our feeder clubs, Carmarthen Quins, Llandovery and Llanelli, and the network of grassroots clubs that support them, this evening’s game would have been the victim of a cancellation due to a lack of eligible players and coaches.

“Scarlets’ relationship with our Premiership Clubs is unique. We pride ourselves on the close working relationship that exists between the region’s coaches and Academy system and the continuous development of the region’s next generation.

“The support from the Premiership Clubs is vital because we will head in to the final pool game of the Anglo-Welsh Cup campaign this evening, against a strong Sale Sharks side at Parc y Scarlets, without 43 of our senior squad players.”

With twenty players on international duty; fourteen with Wales, one with Scotland, three with Wales Under 20s and two with Wales 7s, the regional 23 to take on Sale Sharks will feature twelve players with five appearances or less as well as five debutants.

Guinness PRO14 action gets back underway next weekend with Scarlets heading to Treviso to take on Benetton Rugby before tough contests against Leinster away from home as well as home clashes against Ulster and Leinster, all during the international window.

Eight players on the injured list takes the region’s unavailable number to 28 with the remaining fifteen players rested ahead of the tough month of clashes in the Guinness PRO14.
