Type of Placement: S&C placement working with Scarlets U18’s Academy rugby players, Scarlets U18’s Regional Age Grade (RAG)

Location of Placement: Weight room of Parc Y Scarlets Stadium (Parc Y Scarlets, Parc Pemberton, Llanelli, SA14 9UZ) and weight room of Coleg Sir Gar (Graig Campus, Sandy Road, Pwll, Llanelli, SA15 4DN)

Length of Placement: 2019-2020 Rugby Season / 2019-2020 Academic Year

 

Schedule of Placement:

Pre-season June – August 2019 Monday 1:30 – 4pm, Tuesday 1:30 – 4pm, Thursday 1:30 – 4pm and Friday 1:30 – 4pm

In-season Block 1 September – December 2019 Monday 8 – 9am & 5 - 6pm, Friday 8 – 9am & 5-6pm and Saturday 8:30 – 10:30am

In-season Block 2 January – May 2020 Monday 8 – 9am & 5 - 6pm, Friday 8 – 9am & 5 - 6pm and Saturday 8:30 – 10:30am

 

Job Description

Deliver a range of S&C training in alignment with the Scarlets Age-Grade S&C curriculum & WRU College S&C programme including warm ups, conditioning sessions, gym-based weight sessions, testing & rehab / prehab sessions and monitoring of session attendance, duration and intensity.

Salary: Unpaid/Voluntary

To experience hands on coaching in all areas of S&C with mentoring in coaching delivery

To gain an understanding of the application of sports science & S&C in an elite sporting environment, the physiological requirements of a RAG 18’s rugby player and the structure and function of RAG / Academy rugby

Opportunity to gain an introduction to a network of contacts within the Welsh Rugby Union and Scarlets Academy

 

Qualifications/Requirements

- Sport Science or related undergraduate degree (2nd & 3rd year students will be considered) – Must be in some form of education through the course of the placement

- Current UK drivers licence with access to vehicle throughout the placement

- Full DBS check

- Punctuality and Commitment

- Work unsociable hours

- Team player

- Ability to hold a conversation!
