The Welsh Rugby Players Association (WRPA) is looking for an experienced and motivated person who will lead the Personal Development Program (PDP) in the Scarlets region. The WRPA is a non-profit organisation which aims to promote and protect the welfare of its members by endeavouring to safeguard their futures both on and off the pitch. Through the collaboration of the players, the Welsh Rugby Union and the four professional regions in Wales the WRPA's PDP seeks out to ensure the Career & Education, Life Skills, Vulnerabilities and Wellbeing needs of all our members are met.

The WRPA wishes to invite applications for the roles of Personal Development Manager (Scarlets).

Role Summary:

This position is part of the Welsh Rugby Players Association (WRPA) Personal Development Programme (PDP). The PDP’s focus is to support, guide and assist players in identifying and navigating their individual pathways to success, both on and off the field. It is designed to have an impact on players for life – during and beyond their rugby playing career.

Key focus areas include career, education, life skills development, wellbeing and transition management both into, through and out of the professional rugby environment.

 

Skills & Experience required:

The PDM role will see the successful candidate interact with senior and academy players in a professional sporting environment on a daily basis. Exceptional communication skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships with players, club officials and external businesses are therefore essential.

 

A background in rugby and interest in the game is preferable but not essential.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a successful track record in some or all of the following areas:

  • Experience of professional/elite sports environment and the welfare issues faced by professional athletes
  • Experience of career planning and career change with adults
  • Business experience, networks and contacts
  • Experience of learning and development programmes
  • Experience of outplacement and/or recruitment
  • Confident presenting skills and an ability to train groups
  • Experience of performance lifestyle or equivalent programmes within professional/elite sport
  • Experience of coaching and mentoring with adults
