Job Description

Scarlets Rugby are seeking to employ a Lead Academy Physiotherapist. The individual will have worked in sport for a minimum of three years. 

As an integral part of the academy and physiotherapy teams you will be responsible for delivering first-class physiotherapy provision to all Scarlets Academy and Age Grade players. You will demonstrate ambition in the field of Sports Physiotherapy as well as a passion for educating and developing young athletes to reach their potential.  

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Assisting the Academy Medical Team to ensure evidence-based physiotherapy provision to all Scarlets Academy, Age Grade, and Academy Pathway players at training and competition venues Worldwide as required

  • Provide physiotherapy cover at Scarlets Rugby / Academy and matches including away travel throughout Europe and Worldwide as required
  • Assist the Head of Medical Services and the medical team at Scarlets Rugby in the assessment, treatment and maintenance of Senior, Development and Academy players as required
  • Provide effective rehabilitation approaches to injured Academy, Coleg Sir Gar, Age Grade and Senior Squad players at Scarlets Rugby as required
  • To work as part of the Scarlets Rugby Performance Team (Sports Medicine, Sport Science, S&C, Nutrition and other service providers) to maximise player availability and return injured players to performance in a safe yet efficient time scale
  • Contribute to the long-term athlete development strategies of Scarlets Academy and pathway players
  • Implement pre-season musculoskeletal screening and formulate injury risk profiles for Scarlets Rugby Academy, Regional Age Grade players
  • Ensure individualised injury prevention and performance enhancement programmes are adhered to and regularly reviewed
  • In collaboration with Strength and Conditioning and Academy Coaches regularly review the development of all Scarlets Rugby Academy players
  • Attend appointments and consultations with Scarlets Rugby Academy, Age Grade players as deemed necessary
  •  In collaboration with Scarlets medical staff ensure medical equipment supplies are maintained and kept up to date
  • Promote fair play and adherence to UK Anti-Doping rules to all Scarlets Rugby and Coleg Sir Gar players and staff
  • Maintain up to date medical notes using the Welsh Rugby Union online communication system for contracted Scarlets players or through online communication systems such as google doc, etc for age grade players
  • Report injuries or concerns to the Head of Medical Services promptly
  • Communicate effectively with all members of the Scarlets management and performance teams regarding any medical matters, player injuries, player welfare or player performance
  • Leadership and Management
  • Deliver education on topics including concussion, blood borne viruses, fair play and anti-doping to all Scarlets Rugby Academy pathway players and management
  • Assist in the development of junior members of staff within the academy pathway and students as required
  •  Maintain Chartered Society of Physiotherapy membership and Health Care Professions Council registration
  • Ensure compliance to the Welsh Rugby Union Minimum Medical Standards Criteria concerning physiotherapy staff and pitch side practitioners
  • Participation in the delivery of regular in-service training 
  • Maintain and provide evidence of your sports physiotherapy knowledge and practice 
  • Formulate and agree a personal development plan with the Head of Medical Services to be reviewed annually
