Scarlets can confirm that prop Alec Hepburn will be leaving the club at the end of the 2025-26 season to join fellow United Rugby Championship side Edinburgh Rugby.

The Scotland international loose-head has played 34 matches in two seasons since arriving from Exeter Chiefs in 2024.

During his time in west Wales, Hepburn, 33, earned a recall to international rugby. He was part of the Scotland touring party over the summer – playing against the New Zealand Maori and Fiji – and was called into train with Gregor Townsend’s 2026 Six Nations squad ahead of their Championship finale against Ireland.

Hepburn said: “I would like to take the time to thank the coaches, players and fans of the Scarlets for the last two years here in west Wales.

“The opportunity to be involved with this club is something I will look back fondly on. To see the passion and joy that runs deep in this region has been amazing to witness first hand, particularly on those big home derby games.

“I’ve enjoyed working with the coaches and my personal development has continued. Seeing the game through different lenses has been refreshing and has broadened my horizons on how to play the game.

“Thank you to all the players, for the many friendships formed, memories made and enjoyment had. I want to thank you all for welcoming me to the group and getting to know you on a personal level. Two years have gone by fast and have been made very enjoyable by you lot. I wish you all the best for the seasons to come.”

Scarlets Interim Director of Rugby Nigel Davies: “Heps has made a strong contribution during his time with us and leaves with our thanks and best wishes.

“He brought valuable experience and professionalism into the environment that had a positive impact not just on the field, but across the group – particularly in supporting and developing our younger front-row players.

“He’s been a great fit for this club and a popular member of our squad and we wish him every success with the next chapter at Edinburgh.”

The Scarlets will confirm a new addition to the squad shortly, with further recruitment and retention updates to follow in coming weeks.
