Scarlets players and coaches will be taking a break from the training field to head out onto the cricket square for a 20-over clash as part of Dafen Welfare’s centenary celebrations on Friday, August 7.
Ioan Nicholas, who plays club cricket for Pontyberem, will skipper a Scarlets squad that includes head coach Dwayne Peel, who used to play for Drefach in his younger days, fly-half Carwyn Leggatt-Jones, an accomplished top-order batsman for Bronwydd, and prop Henry Thomas, who played representative cricket during his time at Millfield School.
New signing Isaac Murray-Macgregor and coaches Steff Hughes and Phil John will also be among those donning the pads for the match.
There is free entry to the match, which is being sponsored by our kit partners VX3.
There will be plenty of fun off the field as well with food and drink stalls and entertainment around the ground.
It all starts at 6pm, so get yourself down to Dafen for what promises to be a great evening as we help celebrate the club’s 100-year milestone.
Ioan Nicholas said: “It’s fantastic that we are able to support Dafen’s centenary celebrations, we’ve got a few boys in the squad who have played a bit of cricket over the years so we’re looking forward to what should be a great evening.”
Dafen’s Daniel Vaughan added: “We’re thrilled that the Scarlets are part of our centenary celebrations. Hopefully, we can have a big crowd at Dafen to enjoy the cricket and the family fun we have around the park. It should be a fantastic occasion for the club and village.”
