Scarlets to take on Dragons in pre-season clash at Llandovery

Scarlets have added a third fixture to their pre-season schedule as they take on Welsh rivals Dragons RFC at Llandovery on Friday, September 11 (7pm kick-off).

The match will sandwich games against English opposition in Exeter Chiefs (Sandy Park; Saturday, September 5) and Saracens (Parc y Scarlets; Friday, September 18), providing more valuable game time for the senior squad ahead of the BKT United Rugby Championship opener against Cardiff on September 26 (kick off 7.45pm).

The pre-season derby will take take place at Church Bank, the home of Llandovery RFC and support the current fundraising campaign for neighbouring Llandovery College.

Scarlets Director of Rugby Nigel Davies and Managing Director Jon Daniels recently visited the college as part of the club’s long-standing commitment to one of Wales’ most famous and celebrated rugby schools one which continues to produce a rich seam of talent for the Welsh game and has close links with Llandovery RFC.

The match could see a return to Llandovery for one of the town’s most famous sons, former Scarlets, Wales and British & Irish Lions prop Wyn Jones, who is heading into his second season with the Dragons.

“We are grateful to Llandovery RFC for working with us in partnership to host this fixture and we look forward to welcoming Scarlets and Dragons supporters to what will be a great evening of rugby.”

Llandovery RFC Chairman Peter Rees said: “We are delighted to host the fixture both as part of our established partnership with the Scarlets and in support of Llandovery College which has had a long-standing relationship with the Drovers and is so important for our broader community.”

Entry to the game is £10 for an adult with U16s going free. Tickets are available for purchase at Llandovery RFC on entry on the day.
