Carmarthen Quins left it late for the second week in succession with Academy centre Gabe McDonald latching onto a chip from Thomas Williams for the match-winning score in the final minutes of a tense Super Rygbi Cymru clash against Swansea at Broadacre.

Hooker Isaac Young also crossed for a try in the 17-14 victory for the Quins, while Elis Price kicked a conversion. Fly-half Carwyn Leggat-Jones and lock Sam Williams were replacements in the Quins’ match-day squad.

Former Scarlets U18s captain Tiaan Sparrow delivered a ‘Seren y Gem’ performance in Llandovery’s 35-17 win over Bridgend at Church Bank on Thursday evening.

Tiaan, who has battled back from serious illness, crossed for two first-half tries in an energetic all-round display from the openside.

There was a glut of Scarlets Academy players on show in front of the S4C cameras with prop Gabe Hawley and full-back Jac Davies starting. Props Josh Morse and Jac Pritchard, second row Kai Jones, centre Gryff Watkins and fly-half Steff Jac Jones all came off the bench.

Senior wing Tomi Lewis touched down for a second try in as many games – set up by a lovely step and kick through from Jac Davies.

It’s been an impressive start for the two West Walian sides in the SRC with the Drovers top of the table after six matches and the Quins in third.

With no URC action this weekend, all eyes will be on the SRC as Llandovery head to Cardiff on Saturday and Quins host RGC.

Elsewhere on Saturday it was all about cup action. Tom Phillips started at loose-head prop in Llanelli Wanderers’ 28-22 WRU Premiership Cup win over Ystrad Rhondda at Stradey, while hooker Keanu Evans and wing Callum Woolley featured for Ammanford in their 24-11 Championship Cup victory at Gowerton. Steff Jac Jones was on the bench for Aberystwyth, who lost at home to Bridgend Athletic.
