Academy back-rower Dom Kossuth became the latest Scarlet to deliver an eye-catching performance on the U20s stage, making his mark off the bench in Wales’ 48-33 defeat to Ireland in Cork.
Kossuth was an early replacement for Evan Minto at No. 8 and put in some thunderous charges, including one that led to Caio James’s second-half try.
The Kidwelly product, who turns 19 this month, has had a frustrating time with injury in recent seasons, but is highly rated at Parc y Scarlets and the evidence from Saturday night’s clash at Virgin Media Park highlighted why.
“It felt really good coming on, I didn’t really expect to be on so early, but it was about bringing some energy and it was great being out there and having a good 60-odd minutes under my belt,” he said afterwards.
Prop Jac Pritchard again produced a strong scrummaging display, while fly-half Carwyn Leggatt-Jones and prop Yestyn Cook entered the fray in the second half.
Wales U20s complete what has been an encouraging campaign, despite three defeats from four, when they take on Italy at Rodney Parade on Sunday lunchtime (1pm ko).
Elsewhere, holders Llandovery were beaten 28-25 by Newport in a dramatic final of the Super Rygbi Cymru Cup at Cardiff Arms Park. Academy hooker Harry Thomas, props Tom Phillips and Gabe Hawley and flanker Tiaan Sparrow were part of the Drovers’ squad in the capital.
In the WRU Leagues, hooker Keanu Evans started for Ammanford in their away loss to Aberystwyth in Championship West.
