Scarlets Finals Weekend another scorching success

Scarlets Finals Weekend proved another huge success with around 3,000 spectators watching the next generation of Scarlets players in nine finals over three sun-kissed days at Parc y Scarlets.

Hosted by the Scarlets Community Foundation and sponsored by our community partners Dunbia, there was some outstanding rugby on display as the best of Carmarthenshire went up against the cream of Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.

It was the first time for the Parc to host the Girls Hubs finals and it was Haverfordwest Eagles and Merched Mynydd Mawr U12s who kicked things off on Friday evening, with the Eagles soaring to a 26-17 victory. Stradey Sospans then lifted the U14s trophy, beating South Pembrokeshire Sharks 22-14.

On Saturday, it was the turn of the Youth Finals.

Furnace made it a hat-trick of Plate victories this season after seeing off the challenge of Narberth 22-17, while Newcastle Emlyn hoisted the Cup, beating Haverfordwest 20-17 in another tight contest.

Then came the ever-popular junior finals played on Sunday.

First up, Carmarthen Quins U12s battled back from a half-time deficit to clinch a 24-19 win over Haverfordwest.

Llangennech and Tenby U13s produced some spectacular scores that brought the crowd off its feet, with the boys from Llan running out 41-26 winners.

Carmarthen Athletic lifted the U14s Cup, but needed to withstand a spirited Tenby fightback before claiming a 41-33 win.

There was a thriller in the U15s final with a late Brynamman try from a surging line-out drive securing a 20-20 draw against Fishguard. The trophy was shared between the two sides.

Llandovery and Haverfordwest U16s rounded off the day, with the young Drovers clinching the trophy thanks to a 40-29 win.

Scarlets players Eddie James, Carwyn Leggatt-Jones, Osian Williams, Elis Price, Jac Pritchard, Keanu Evans, Gabe McDonald and Academy coach Tom Phillips were on hand to present the trophies over the three days, along with representatives of Dunbia.

A big thank you to all our officials, our ball girls and boys and PA announcer, the Reverend Eldon Phillips.

Scarlets Community Foundation Manager Paul Fisher said: “It’s been a brilliant weekend across all three days with some fantastic rugby on show.

“We are proud to have been able to showcase the talent we have across the region at junior boys, girls and youth level and having so many people through the doors made for a great atmosphere in the sun.

“A big thanks to WRU Community staff and GMG Leads in facilitating the Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire & Ceredigion Cups, allowing this event to be possible. We’d also like to thank the officials for supporting and making themselves available and the Scarlets staff that delivered such a fantastic event.”
