Head coach Dwayne Peel admits his side must dig deep following the disappointment of their derby setbacks and be ready and firing for two massive challenges in the Investec Champions Cup over the coming weeks.
Disappointing losses to the Ospreys and Dragons in the space of six days has been tough to take for the squad.
But focus now turns to a new competition and a chance to qualify for the knockout stages of the northern hemisphere’s premier club competition in April.
“We have had a disappointing week,” said Peel. “We had some high-profile games against Bristol and Bordeaux-Begles, which were physical, then backed that up in Cardiff, but we have fallen off in the last two games.
“To come to Rodney Parade and concede nearly 30 points is disappointing. I thought the Dragons were physical, they stopped us gaining any momentum, we had enough ball in that first half, but couldn’t get over the gainline. We aren’t turning possession into points, we need to get better in that area. That’s on me, I’ll take responsibility for that.
“In the second half the red card hurt us and we never recovered from that.
“It was a disappointing night. We have a few injuries, but we have no excuses, we had enough on the field to produce some good stuff out there.
“It is a massive game for us now against Pau in the Champions Cup. We have played some high-intensity games in recent weeks and we have another two coming up at home against a side who are second in the Top 14 and then Northampton who are flying high at the top of the Prem. They are tough games, but that is the nature of the beast.
“We will get back to work on Monday for a full week’s training and make sure we’re ready to go.”
Scarlets will assess a shoulder injury to Taine Plumtree, who left the field before half-time. Centre Johnny Williams is set to miss both Champions Cup fixtures with a calf issue, but Blair Murray is close to making his comeback from the ankle injury he suffered in Cardiff before Christmas.
