Carwyn Leggatt-Jones, one of Welsh rugby’s brightest young talents, has signed his first senior contract with the Scarlets, committing his future until at least 2029.
The 18-year-old Llandovery College student from Carmarthen has enjoyed a remarkable rise over the past 12 months and is currently starring at fly-half for Wales U20s in the Junior World Championship in Georgia, where he continues to demonstrate why he is regarded as one of the country’s most exciting young prospects.
Having progressed through the Scarlets pathway, Carwyn burst onto the professional scene last season, making his United Rugby Championship debut just a day after his 18th birthday. He went on to make nine senior appearances, including four starts at fly-half.
Regardless of his age, he quickly showed he belonged at professional level, impressing with his composure, game management, all-round kicking game and willingness to take responsibility in one of the game’s most demanding positions.
The decision to offer Carwyn a first senior contract reflects not only his performances on the field, but the professionalism, maturity and commitment he has demonstrated throughout his development.

Director of Rugby Nigel Davies believes Carwyn’s journey is another example of the strength of the Scarlets development pathway.
“Carwyn has earned this opportunity. His performances last season showed everyone the talent he possesses, but what impressed us just as much was the way he embraced the challenge of stepping into professional rugby at such a young age.
“Playing fly-half is one of the most demanding positions on the field, yet he showed real composure, confidence and an ability to make good decisions under pressure. He has an excellent rugby brain, a strong kicking game and, perhaps most importantly, a genuine desire to keep learning and improving.
“It’s easy to forget that only a year ago Carwyn was still playing schools rugby. The speed of his development has been outstanding, but this contract is about much more than what he has already achieved. It’s recognition of the player we believe he can become and our commitment to helping him fulfil that potential.”
Davies also paid tribute to Llandovery College, recognising the important role it continues to play in developing young players for the professional game.
“I’d also like to recognise the outstanding work that Llandovery College continues to do. Over many years they have produced not only exceptional rugby players but outstanding young people, preparing them for the demands of professional rugby both on and off the field.
“Our relationship with Llandovery College is incredibly important. They have consistently developed players with the character, resilience and work ethic needed to succeed and Carwyn is another excellent example of what that partnership can achieve. We are fortunate to have such an outstanding rugby development environment within our region and long may that continue.”
Speaking from the Wales camp in Tblisi, Carwyn Leggatt-Jones said: “It’s been a whirlwind year and it’s all come quicker than I expected, but it’s been class. At the start of the season I was playing for Llandovery College and then a few months later I was starting in the URC.
“To be playing alongside someone like Gar (Davies), who I looked up to growing up, was a surreal experience, but I’ve loved every minute of it and learned a huge amount.
“We have a couple of weeks left here with Wales at the Junior World Championships and we’re looking to finish the tournament strongly; then, after a bit of a break, it’s a case of being back with the Scarlets and ripping into pre-season.
“For me it is about continuing to learn and grow my game and hopefully pushing for more senior appearances.”
Carwyn will link up with the Scarlets squad later this summer. He becomes the fourth player from the Senior Academy to sign a full senior contract ahead of the 2026-27 season, following Gabe Hawley, Jac Davies and Will Evans. Prop Josh Morse, hooker Isaac Young and full-back Ioan Jones will also be part of the senior squad for the coming campaign.
Other players to have penned new deals are Fletcher Anderson, Josh Macleod, Gareth Davies, Dan Davis, Sam Lousi and Harri O’Connor.
New recruits include prop Corey Domachowski, second rows Harvey Cuckson and Alex Groves, hookers John McKee and George Roberts, full-back Isaac Murray-Macgregor and All Black Cullen Grace.
