Scarlets have secured Wales international wing Ellis Mee on a contract extension to remain at Parc y Scarlets.
The news is a massive boost for the Scarlets with the 23-year-old having established himself as one of the most exciting young attacking talents in Welsh rugby and underlines his growing influence and importance to the west Wales side.
Mee has been in scintillating form in recent weeks, following up a try double over Benetton with a player-of-the-match performance against Newcastle Red Bulls to earn a place in Wales’ squad for the Nations Championship this November.
With 43 Scarlets appearances and 11 tries to his name, Mee has become an increasingly influential member of a young, ambitious squad looking to establish itself as a competitive force in the BKT United Rugby Championship and EPCR Challenge Cup.
His journey is also a compelling example of the Scarlets’ commitment to identifying, developing and providing opportunities for emerging talent.
Arriving in Llanelli from English Championship side Nottingham in 2024, Mee was a relatively unknown prospect with exciting physical attributes and significant potential.
Two years on, he has developed into a Wales international, winning his first cap against Ireland in the 2025 Six Nations and going on to make 11 Test appearances.
Scarlets Director of Rugby Nigel Davies said: “We’re absolutely delighted that Ellis has committed his future to the Scarlets.
“He’s an exciting player, a great character within the group and someone who represents the ambition and energy we’re trying to build.
“He’s got genuine pace, power and an ability to beat defenders. He’s also strong in the air, increasingly effective in his defensive work and is developing a much better understanding of how to influence games, both with and without the ball.
“When Ellis arrived from Nottingham, he had some outstanding natural attributes, but what has impressed me most is his appetite to learn, his willingness to work and the progress he’s continued to make.
“Ellis’s journey is also something that reflects the wider work taking place here at the Scarlets. There’s a tremendous amount of effort that goes into identifying players, bringing them into our environment and helping them develop.
“Developing players who can perform at international level has always been an important part of the Scarlets’ identity and our contribution to Welsh rugby and it’s vital that we continue to create an environment where talented players can fulfil their potential.
“Equally important is retaining those players as they develop. We want to build a competitive Scarlets team, and that means keeping our best young talent, giving them the opportunity to grow together and creating genuine competition for places.”
Ellis Mee said: “I am delighted to have resigned with the Scarlets. Ever since joining the club a couple of seasons ago the boys have been so welcoming which made the move so much easier for me.
“The coaching staff have been really good with growing me as a player, I’ve really enjoyed the opportunities I’ve had and have learned a huge amount over the last couple of seasons. I can’t wait to see what is to come.
“With the young ambitious squad that we have here, I am really looking forward to seeing what we can build in the coming seasons. I really think we’ve got something special in this group of lads and there’s a real belief in what we’re trying to build together.”
