Brython Thunder kept their play-off hopes alive with an impressive 32-10 win over Glasgow Warriors in Round 9 of the Celtic Challenge at Scotstoun Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Welsh side secured a fourth win on the trot and remain firmly in the hunt for a semi-final place with one game to go.
Thunder and Glasgow are fighting it for that fourth play-off place.
Irish sides Wolfhounds and Clovers and Welsh rivals Gwalia Lightning have all qualified, with Thunder hosting Lightning in the final Round 10 game at Parc y Scarlets on Sunday, March 8 (KO:2pm).
Thunder were full value for this win and have some real form ahead of the all-Welsh derby, which promises to be a cracker in Llanelli.
Wales captain Kate Williams and fellow Welsh internationals Lisa Neumann and Courtney Keight were all drafted in from their PWR clubs for this fixture.
All three added real experience to the Thunder side with half-backs Seren Lockwood and Hanna Marshall proving influential.
Glasgow dominated the first half but Thunder’s defence and clinical finishing gave the Welsh side the edge during the first 40 minutes.
Wales wing Neumann made a real impact and crossed for the visitors’ opening try when she showed her power and strength to race in at the corner.
Thunder’s other wing Singleton then got in on the act and crossed for the second after a superb pass from fly-half Marshall.
Thunder went in 10-3 ahead at half-time and were well deserved the lead.
Straight from the restart centre Mollie Wilkinson benefited from a Kate Williams charge down to show good pace to follow up a hack through and touch down for Brython’s third try to stretch their visitors’ lead
Wing Mabli Evans finished off a slick backline handling move for the fourth, then Wales scrum-half Lockwood produced a brilliant dummy and dart to race over at the posts. Replacement Ellie Tromans got in on the act with Thunder’s sixth try finishing well from a blindside scrum.
