Scarlets are thrilled to announce that five exciting young talents have signed their first Senior Academy contracts ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Scrum-halves Alfie Luger and George Macdonald, Dutch age-grade international second row Gabe Cahsay, centre Jayden Brown and Wales U19s prop Hudon Nevin are the new recruits welcomed into the academy. All five have already started training alongside the senior squad at Parc y Scarlets.

Last season saw nine members of the Senior Academy represent the Scarlets in either the URC or Investec Champions Cup – full-back Jac Davies, fly-halves Carwyn Leggatt-Jones and Elis Price, prop Josh Morse, hooker Harry Thomas, full-back Ioan Jones, centre Gabe McDonald, wings Iori Badham and Callum Woolley.

The Scarlets Academy has a proud tradition of producing players for the professional game with Wales and British & Irish Lions stars Ken Owens, Jonathan Davies and Gareth Davies among those to have come through the pathway.

More recently, the likes of skipper Josh Macleod, Ryan Elias, Eddie James, Joe Roberts, Kemsley Mathias and Tom Rogers have gone to represent their country, while current Scarlets regulars Macs Page, Archie Hughes and Dan Davis are others to come off the Academy conveyor belt.

Academy head coach Scott Sneddon said: “The Academy here has always prided itself on producing talent for the professional game and it was fantastic to see so many of our group have their opportunity last season. Our objective as an academy is to grow these young men as people, as well as support them as players to stretch their ceilings and ultimately become first team starters and beyond.

“You look at someone like Carwyn (Leggatt-Jones), who only turned 18 last season, he has already had valuable experience at senior level and I am sure there will be others pushing hard for their chances in the coming season.

“We have five boys coming in at different levels of their young rugby careers, who have really impressed us with their attitude, work ethic and desire to get better and as a coaching group we are excited to see how their progress in our environment. ”

New Senior Academy Signings

Gabe Cahsay (second row)

A member of the Scarlets U18s squad that won the RAG title a couple of seasons ago, Gabe also played international rugby for Netherlands U18s and U20s. Born in Nairobi in Kenya, he was brought up in the Netherlands, playing his junior rugby there before attending Llandovery College. At 6ft 6in and 120kg, the 20-year-old is a powerful presence in the second row. Has been playing university rugby with Cardiff Met and has appeared for Ammanford in the national leagues.

George Macdonald (scrum-half)

George was a regular for Llandovery RFC last season during the Drovers’ Super Rygbi Cymru title-winning campaign. A tenacious, sniping nine, he played his junior rugby for Llanelli Wanderers and made his senior debut for Narberth at the age of 18. Also featured for Cardiff University in BUCS. The son of former Llanelli No. 9 Chris Macdonald.

Alfie Luger (scrum-half)

A regular starter in the No. 9 jersey for Wales U18s in the recent Six Nations festival in France, Alfie is a product of Tenby RFC and was part of the Llandovery College squad that won the Welsh Schools and Colleges title in 2024. A razor-sharp runner who has an eye for the tryline.

Hudson Nevin (loose-head prop)

Another who has come through the Scarlets pathway, Hudson, who is still only 18, was named in Wales U20s’ squad for 2026 Six Nations and went on to play for Wales U19s. Having played for Llangennech and Ammanford in the national leagues, he made his debut for Carmarthen Quins in this year’s SRC. A powerful, athletic carrier, Hudson is a converted back-rower having played his junior rugby for Penclawdd and South Gower RFC.

Jayden Brown (centre)

Caught the eye for Scarlets U18s during last season’s Academies Championship and with Llandovery College in the Schools and Colleges League, Jayden was born in Samoa and brought up in Fiji, playing for the renowned Marist Brothers High School in Suva. An elusive runner, with slick hands and a strong defensive game, Jayden has already been capped by Wales U18s.
