Primary Role 

The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, delivery and continuous evaluation of all areas of athletic development within the Scarlets Junior Academy (U18s) and associated pathway teams. 

The Person: Essential Qualities 

  • Recognised degree Higher National Diploma in physical education, human movement or exercise and  sports science. 
  • Minimum of 12 months experience of working within an athletic performance (strength &  conditioning) environment in elite level sport. 
  • Good understanding of elite level rugby union and knowledge of developing young athletes o Organised, efficient and self-driven in all aspects of work 
  • Capable of developing effective relationships with other staff members and players alike o High level of self-awareness and self-motivation 

The Person: Desirable Qualities

Key Responsibilities 

In conjunction with the Scarlets U18’s Head Coach, Coleg Sir Gar Director of Rugby, Academy  Manager & Academy Head of Athletic Performance – design, implement, deliver and continually  evaluate all areas of athletic perfromance development for U18s players within the following: 

– Academy U18s contracted players 

– Junior Academy ‘Extended’ Group 

– Regional Age Grade U18s 

– Coleg Sir Gar Rugby Programme  

  • Collaborate with Academy Manager and appropriate coaching staff to plan short and long-term  training schedules that facilitate the physical development of players/teams within the role.  
  • As part of an inter-disciplinary team, prepare and review Individual Player Plans (IPP) for Junior  Academy U18s players.  
  • Collaborate with U18s Physiotherapist to integrate and manage injury prevention work within the  training programme relative to individual and positional needs. 
  • Collaborate with U18s Physiotherapist to plan and manage the return to play and re-integration of  injured players. 
  • Work alongside coaches to plan and deliver session content for rugby/skill sessions. 
  • Be present at all rugby/skills sessions and matches/festivals to deliver content relating to session  preparation and physical development, and assist coaches in session delivery. 
  • Monitor and manage training intensity and volume of players to optimise training provision and  performance. 
  • Responsible for implementing and managing testing/monitoring and reporting of all U18s physical  development, and where appropriate according to Senior Strength and Conditioning and WRU testing  procedures. 
  • Assistance with Academy 18+ and Development training sessions, as and when instructed by  Academy Head of Athletic Performance Coach.  
  • Provide education sessions to players on aspects of physical preparation and lifestyle which support  players physical and professional development. 
  • Remotely manage and assess quality of physical development program delivery and service to all  associated pathway teams (Pembrokeshire College, Llandovery College S&C, Dyffryn Amman, U17s Scarlets Training Group, U16s Scarlets West, U16s Scarlets East, EPP & Dewar Shield), and away based players (e.g. Hartpury College). 
  • Assist Head Academy & Senior of Athletic Performance Coach if and when required. 
  • Assist, work alongside and support Academy Manager, Head Academy Athletic Performance Coaches and any Senior Scarlets Athletic Performance Staff Members as required. 
  • Liaise with WRU performance staff on all Scarlets players involved in international programmes 
  • Ensure that players progressing from the U18s into the Senior Academy are prepared physically for  the demands of senior professional rugby in liaison with the Head of Academy & Senior Athletic Performance Coaches.

LOCATION 

Parc y Scarlets, Pemberton Park, Llanelli, SA14 9UZ 

CONTRACT TYPE 

Full time, 2-year fixed term contract. This role will include evenings, school holidays and weekend  working.

SALARY 

£25,000 £27,000 per annum depending on experience.
