Josh Macleod will skipper the Scarlets for the 2025-26 campaign – his third season at the helm.
Macleod was officially appointed club captain in 2023 after stepping in for the injured Jonathan Davies to lead the side to a European Challenge Cup semi-final.
A player who drives standards on and off the field, his outstanding form in the Scarlets jersey last season saw him recalled to the Wales side for the two-Test series against Japan.
Born in Monte Carlo, but a proud man of Pembrokeshire, Josh played his junior rugby with Crymych RFC before coming through to shine in the Scarlets age-grade and Academy teams.
He made his Scarlets senior debut ten years ago and was a member of the squad that lifted the PRO12 title in 2016-17. Now 28, he has made 136 appearances for the club, scoring 14 tries.
Josh said: “It is always a huge honour to be following in the footsteps of some Scarlets legends who have captained this club and it is a privilege to be asked to continue in the role for the coming season.
“As a squad we felt we made significant progress last season, reaching the URC play-offs and qualifying for the Champions Cup. Our aim was to compete in every game and we did that.
“The message going into this new campaign has been clear – we want to maintain that momentum and keep building. We loved being part of the knockout stages and want a taste of that again.
“As captain, I am fortunate to have a group of senior players who are constantly driving standards on and off the field and a great group of youngsters who are always willing to learn and develop.
“The boys want to play, they want to entertain and they want to reward our fans, who follow us across Europe without fail.
“It’s a massive start for us this Saturday against Munster. We have worked hard as a squad over the summer and are raring to go. It will be an honour again to lead the boys out, hopefully in front of a great crowd here at the Parc.”
Head coach Dwayne Peel said: “Josh epitomises the values we stand for here at the Scarlets. He is a player who leads by example and that shows in the intensity and commitment he brings to every game.
“He is someone who is always working on his game, who demands high standards of himself and demands high standards of people around him.
“Josh has been in and around the club for a long time now, having come through the Academy ranks here. He has grown up understanding the Scarlets culture, what it means to pull on the jersey and what we represent.”
