Two of the Scarlets’ emerging young front-row talents Josh Morse and Isaac Young have signed new contracts with the club.
Both members of the Scarlets Senior Academy, the pair will be aiming to push on this season after injury setbacks frustrated their campaign last term.
Loose-head prop Morse and hooker Young were both members of the Wales U20s side at last year’s World Championships in South Africa.
A product of Llandovery RFC, Morse, 20, has built a reputation as a powerful scrummager and strong carrier, but missed all of last season with a knee injury.
An abrasive, combative hooker, 21-year-old Young stood out in last year’s World Championships and has already made eight senior appearances for the Scarlets, including three off the bench in the BKT United Rugby Championship. He featured for Carmarthen Quins during the inaugural Super Rygbi Cymru season.
Scarlets head coach Dwayne Peel said: “Josh and Isaac are young front-rowers with a huge amount of potential. Both have impressed at U20s level for Wales and have shown the desire and hard work in their rehab to come back better and stronger. We’re looking forward to seeing how they develop within the squad this season.
“They are two players in a young exciting group of front-rowers who can play a big part for the club in the years to come.”
Josh Morse said: “Last season was hugely frustrating not being able to play, but I’ve been working hard on my rehab with the medical and S&C team here and things are progressing well. A huge thanks to them for everything they have done for me. I can’t wait to get back out there and repay the faith the club has shown in me.”
Isaac Young said: “I’m proud to re-sign with the Scarlets. I’m looking forward to working hard over the coming weeks and making the most of the opportunity.”
Scarlets have signed Wales internationals Jake Ball and Joe Hawkins, scrum-half Dane Blacker, back-rower Tristan Davies and Welsh-qualified England U20s full-back Ioan Jones ahead of the new season.
Macs Page, Tomi Lewis, Eddie James, Joe Roberts, Sam Costelow, Kemsley Mathias, Taine Plumtree, Johnny Williams and Sam O’Connor have all signed fresh deals.
Scarlets also recently announced eight new additions to the Senior Academy – Dom Kossuth, Thomas Williams, Gryff Watkins, Sam Williams, Osian Williams, Carwyn Leggatt-Jones, Sion Jones and Kai Jones.
