Scarlets Community Foundation, together with their grassroots clubs and girls rugby hubs, will be delivering special packages to care and nursing homes in the region this week.
The Foundation has received funding for a further 450 care packages – including a grant from Community Foundation Wales Coronavirus Resilience Fund – taking the total deliveries to individuals and families during the Covid-19 pandemic to more than a thousand.
The third phase of deliveries takes place Tuesday, May 19 and Wednesday, May 20 across the three counties of Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion, with Scarlets players Jac Morgan, Osian Knott, Dylan Evans, Tom Rogers and Ryan Conbeer lending a hand to the operation.
The care packages contain essential foodstuffs to help those in need during this lockdown period and for this series of deliveries, clubs and players have been asked to nominate a care or nursing home to receive an ‘Afternoon Tea Pack’ as a treat in these difficult times.
Scarlets commercial partners Tesco (Trostre) and Burns Pet Foods have again made donations to the scheme; Oil4Wales are providing fuel for the vans, while Carmarthenshire food wholesaler Castell Howell, a long-standing supporter of rugby in the community, is helping to coordinate the deliveries and providing cake for the care homes teas.
Scarlets Community Foundation manager Caroline Newman said: “It has been a privilege to be able to support so many people who are in need in these strange times. Following this series of deliveries the Foundation and local clubs will have provided a little bit of help for more than a thousand families.
“We are grateful to Community Foundations Wales for a grant to help continue the deliveries and the addition of care homes in this series has meant we can show our appreciation for the challenges staff and residents are experiencing by offering a small treat for them to enjoy.”
