Hours: A minimum of 35 hours per week, including evenings and weekends
Salary: £23,000-£25,000
Location: Parc y Scarlets with travel required throughout the Scarlets region
Contract type: Fixed term – 2 years

Main Purpose of the Job
The successful applicant will work alongside the Development Pathway at Scarlets Rugby and
Scarlets Community Foundation.

The primary purpose of the role is to drive the development of young players and encourage greater
rugby participation within Scarlets Rugby’s communities. This will include delivering to the EPP and
Dewar Shield pathway groups, ensuring players have access to high-quality coaching, clear feedback,
and opportunities to progress to higher levels of performance.

In addition to player development, the role will focus on supporting clubs, enhancing the capabilities
and confidence of coaches, teachers, and referees through mentoring, education, and structured
Scarlets led Coach Education programmes.

Through building strong relationships with schools, colleges, universities, clubs, and community
groups, Scarlets’ Community Officer will work to achieve growth in rugby participation, improve
player experiences, and foster sustainable connections between Scarlets Rugby and the wider
community.

Furthermore, the role supports the delivery of the Inclusion provisions in line with Scarlets Inclusion
strategy, WRU SLA (Service level agreement) and lead specific areas as agreed with Scarlets
Community Foundation Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • To deliver, or to support the delivery of, rugby union for males and females
  • Deliver rugby sessions to support the player development pathway within the Scarlets region
  • Deliver CPD events to support the Scarlets Coach Education Programme
  • To formulate, deliver or facilitate the delivery of fully inclusive programmes of rugby activity, which engage players of all abilities
  • Lead on specific Inclusion provisions
  • Support the Marketing and Events Coordinator to deliver a Match Day Experience for Clubs / Schools / Organisations at Parc y Scarlets during Scarlets home fixtures
  • Deliver and support promotional activities to grow the Scarlets brand. (Camps, Shows etc)
  • To encourage and support males and females to transition into local community clubs, clusters or alternative offerings, as appropriate
  • To support the educational settings, local community club/clusters and in developing and maintaining a fully inclusive and appropriate environment to encourage young people to participate in rugby, including and especially through coach, referee and volunteereducation and development
  • Supporting rugby development programmes on a local, regional and national basis, as required
  • To contribute to the development and maintenance of a safe and inclusive working environment in all places of work, including through compliance with policies relating to health and safety, equality, safeguarding, confidentiality, social media and data protection (as per WRU and Educational setting requirements)

Person Specification

Essential

  • Experience coaching young players in rugby across various settings
  • Strong understanding of player development (technical/tactical)
  • Experience mentoring coaches and delivering CPD Programmes
  • WRU coaching qualification (WRU Full Game Level 2 Coaching Award or working towards WRU Full Game Level 3)
  • DBS clearance
  • Full UK driving license
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to engage and influence players, colleagues, and stakeholders
  • Strong planning, delegation, and organisational skills
  • Effective problem-solving and attention to detail
  • Motivated, proactive, and adaptable with a positive attitude
  • Flexible to work evenings and weekends
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and the local sports landscape
  • IT literate

Desirable

  • Experience of working in the field of Inclusion and Disability Sport
  • Welsh language skills

  • A passion for sport and an understanding of wider issues relating to sport, sport development experience, EDI, health and education
  • Personal circumstances must allow the candidate to work extended hours on occasion during times of peak activity, including evenings and weekends

Minimum Standards 

  • Outside of the essential requirements for the role, we must comply with the minimum standards set by our governing bodies. All employees must meet these standards when working for us and we will provide the necessary training where required.
