A dominant Scarlets turned on the style to run in six tries to continue their unbeaten run in 2023.

Dwayne Peel’s side have now won eight of their last nine games in all competitions, including their last six since the turn of the year.

Wing Ryan Conbeer crossed twice, Vaea Fifita grabbed another and gifted one to Gareth Davies, while wing Steff Evans and replacement centre Eddie James - on his URC debut - also got on the scoresheet.

It was Sam Lousi, though, who picked up the player-of-the-match award, producing some sizzling moments and giving Edinburgh scrum-half Charlie Shiel a torrid evening around the rucks.

Scarlets were up and running inside six minutes.

Slick hands freed Conbeer on the left, the winger still had plenty to do, but cut inside, rode the tackle and showed good strength to get over the line. Costelow nailed the conversion and the home side were on their way.

It got better quickly for the Scarlets, thanks to some magic from Fifita.

The back-rower scooped up a loose pass and with only grass in front of him, raced 65 metres unopposed to the line. Costelow again added the extras.

Edinburgh clawed their way back into the contest when prop Murray McCallum crossed from close range, a try converted by fly-half Charlie Savala.

But the remainder of the half belonged to the Scarlets.

The outstanding Lousi thought he had burgled a score from a ruck, only for the officials to chalk it off, but moments later, the second row produced a sublime offload to send Steff Evans racing clear for his ninth try of the campaign.

Leading 21-7 at the break, the Scarlets put the game to bed inside the first 10 minutes of the second half.

Steff Evans and Johnny McNicholl combined to put Conbeer over for his second, then a few minutes later McNicholl produced a moment of brilliance, chipping ahead, gathering before feeding Fifita for a free run to the line. The Tongan made it to the line, before turning and passing the ball to Gareth Davies, who just had to touch the ball down.

Edinburgh pulled a try back through prop Boan Venter, but Scarlets continued to cut open the visitors’ defence.

James, who had come on for the injured Conbeer, took a massive hit from Fijian powerhouse Viliame Mata, but dusted himself down to claim a debut try, stepping his way over from a close-range scrum to complete a comprehensive victory in front of a jubilant crowd of 7,531.

Scarlets - tries: R. Conbeer (2), S. Evans, V. Fifita, G. Davies, E. James.  Cons: S. Costelow (3), D, Jones (3).

Edinburgh - tries: M. McCullum, B. Venter. Cons: C. Savala (2).
