Flying Academy wing Callum Woolley continued his rich vein of try-scoring form with a double for Carmarthen Quins in their thrilling Super Rygbi Cymru derby win over Llandovery at Carmarthen Park.
It’s now five tries in two games in Quins colours for the speedster. There was also a try for centre Gabe McDonald, while Elis Price – a Scarlets replacement in their URC win at the Arms Park on Friday night – landed another match-winning kick to secure the points in a 27-26 victory.
There was a glut of Scarlets prospects on show in Carmarthen.
As well as Woolley, McDonald and Price, Iori Badham also started in the backline, while Ben Williams, Osian Williams and Thomas Williams came off the bench.
For the Drovers, Dan Gemine, playing in the back row, powered over for an early try. Hooker Harry Thomas, tight-head Gabe Hawley, and full-back Jac Davies were also in the starting XV along with towering second row Will Evans, who played 40 minutes in his comeback from long-term hamstring injury. Loose-head prop Josh Morse, a travelling reserve for the Scarlets in Cardiff the next before, came on for Llandovery.
It’s been a busy few weeks of action for 18-year-old fly-half Carwyn Leggatt-Jones, who wore the No. 10 jersey for Wales U19s in their 49-17 loss to England at Ystrad Mynach on Friday. Fellow Scarlets, prop Hudson Nevin and fly-half Steff Jac Jones, were replacements in the loss to the old enemy.
In the WRU national leagues, Yestyn Cook was a sub for Llangennech in their Premiership win over Newbridge, while Tiaan Sparrow and Sion Jones started for Ammanford in their narrow loss at Newcastle Emlyn.
