Academy Watch: Carwyn crosses for Wales U20s, Quins hat-trick for Callum

Fly-half Carwyn Leggatt-Jones added another reel to his highlights package with a superb individual score for Wales U20s in their win over Scotland at Merthyr.

After a challenging first half for the Welsh youngsters, who trailed 21-12 at half-time, the second half brought far more cohesion with the 18-year-old from Carmarthen crossing for one of his side’s six tries. He also kicked eight points, with fellow Scarlet Steff Jac Jones contributing five points from the tee. Prop Jac Pritchard, back-rowers Osian Williams and Joe Denman – who brought plenty of energy off the bench – and wing Thomas Williams also featured in the 43-28 comeback victory at the Wern.

In the latest round of Super Rygbi Cymru, wing Callum Woolley bagged an impressive hat-trick of tries for Carmarthen Quins in their narrow home loss to Cardiff.

Scrum-half Rhodri Lewis dived over from close range in the second half, while half-back partner Elis Price kicked three conversions in the 31-26 loss in front of the S4C cameras. Centre Gabe McDonald and full-back Iori Badham also featured in the Quins backline.

Llandovery were convincing winners over Swansea at Dunvant with Josh Morse starting at loose-head prop, Kai Jones (pictured) at blindside flanker and flanker Tiaan Sparrow coming off the bench in the 32-5 win.

Elsewhere, in the WRU Premiership, lock Sam Williams and prop Tom Phillips were part of the Llanelli Wanderers squad beaten at Newbridge; tight-head Yestyn Cook and full-back Sion Jones were starters for Ammanford in their convincing WRU Championship West victory over Gorseinon, while centre Gryff Watkins was in BUCS action for Cardiff University in their narrow loss to Durham Uni on Friday night.

On the injury front, forwards Will Evans and Dom Kossuth are close to making their returns from injury.

Gabe Hawley, Harry Thomas and Gabe McDonald were travelling reserves for the Scarlets in Bordeaux on Saturday, a Champions Cup game which saw full-back Jac Davies again impress in high-class company.
