Scarlets’ Senior Academy players were back in action on Saturday in the opening round of Super Rygbi Cymru and the WRU national leagues.

Former champions Llandovery launched their campaign on Friday night with an impressive 27-20 win over last season’s inaugural SRC winners Newport.

Prop Josh Morse, who missed all of last season because of a knee injury, caught the eye with a rampaging run leading up to him touching down from close range.

Back-rower Dom Kossuth started at No. 8 for the Drovers, while prop Jac Pritchard and second row Dylan Alford came off the bench.

Carmarthen Quins went down to a narrow 27-24 loss to Bridgend at the Brewery Field.

Elis Price started at fly-half, Thomas Williams and Callum Woolley on the wings and senior squad member Ben Williams at openside. Senior prop Sam O’Connor made his return from a hamstring injury as a replacement, while scrum-half Rhodri Lewis made an impact when he came on. Price kicked three conversions and a penalty for his home club.

Hooker Keanu Evans produced a player-of-the-match performance with a hat-trick for Ammanford in their dramatic WRU Championship win over Dunvant at Broadacre. Flanker Tiaan Sparrow crossed late on to secure a last-gasp 29-27 victory for Ammanford.

In the WRU Premiership, prop Tom Phillips started for Llanelli Wanderers against defending champions Merthyr, while lock Kai Jones featured for Llangennech in their loss at Bargoed.

A number of Senior Academy members were in action for the Scarlets in their pre-season clash against the Dragons at Rodney Parade. Wing Jac Davies (pictured below) and hooker Harry Thomas started the game, with hooker Isaac Young, prop Gabe Hawley, centre Gabe McDonald, 18-year-old back-rower Osian Williams and wing Ioan Jones coming off the bench.
