Academy Watch: Morse makes mark in Drovers thriller

Prop Josh Morse was on the scoresheet as Llandovery claimed a hard-earned 22-19 win over a resurgent Newport in the latest round of Super Rygbi Cymru fixtures.

The 21-year-old loose-head came off the bench to make his mark, powering over the line in the 64th minute as the Drovers battled back from 19-3 down at half-time to take the spoils.

Fellow prop Gabe Hawley and flanker Tiaan Sparrow started for the home side at Church Bank, with Lampeter lock Kai Jones among the replacements.

Elsewhere in the SRC, Carmarthen Quins’ home clash with Bridgend fell foul of the weather. Seven Academy players were set to feature in that match.

Jac Pritchard was due to start at tight-head for Narberth in their Premiership tie at Newbridge, but again the match was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch. Second row Sam Williams did get game-time for Llanelli Wanderers in their late defeat to Neath at The Gnoll.

In the BUCS Championship, centre Gryff Watkins featured for Cardiff University in their narrow 31-29 loss to Cardiff Met at the Arms Park.
