Drovers crowned SRC champions

Llandovery RFC have been crowned Super Rygbi Cymru champions following an impressive 27-10 victory over Ebbw Vale at Eugene Cross Park.

A two-try burst early in the second-half proved crucial for the Drovers, who included a number of young Scarlets in their match-day squad.

One of those, full-back Jac Davies, produced a scintillating break for the third try of the afternoon, racing clear before feeding wing Harri Doel for his second score.

Prop Gabe Hawley and second row Dan Gemine both started the final, while hooker Harry Thomas, prop Sam O’Connor, lock Kai Jones and flanker Tiaan Sparrow came off the bench.

The day, though, belonged to veteran Lee Rees, the 35-year-old Drovers captain, who crossed for an opportunist solo try to seal the perfect send-off to his 17-season and 402-match career with Llandovery.

An ill-disciplined first half had seen centre Rhodri Jones burst through for his side’s opening try to make it 10-10 at the break.

The Steelmen, to their credit, responded strongly after falling behind, but Llandovery’s defensive effort late on – with Sparrow to the fore – held them out.
