Scarlets legend Ray Gravell has been inducted into the Welsh Sports Hall of Fame.
A Welsh icon, ‘Grav’ played an incredible 485 games for Llanelli RFC in a 16-year career, including the historic Stradey Park victory over the touring All Blacks in 1972 – the day Llanelli’s pubs famously ran dry.
He won 23 caps for Wales and was a member of the 1980 British & Irish Lions tour party to South Africa, playing all four Tests.
After retiring from rugby, Ray went on to carve out a career as a popular broadcaster and actor. He was also appointed club president in 1988.
Grav, who sadly passed away in 2007, was honoured at a special ceremony in Saundersfoot where his wife Mari and daughters Manon and Gwenan received the award. His former Llanelli team-mates Delme Thomas, Roy Bergiers and Gareth Jenkins were among the guests at the St Brides Hotel.
Former Wales footballers Ian Walsh and Simon Davies were also honoured, along with St Davids headteacher Rachel Thomas and Atlantic rower Janine Williams.
