A big thank you all the supporters and stakeholders who contributed to the Scarlets ‘Open Book’ to feed back views from all those connected with our club into the WRU’s consultation on the professional game in Wales.
Hundreds of entries were submitted with contributors joining in from across the UK. Written submissions were enough to fill a 200-page book.
More than 50,000 words have been written by those connected with Scarlets with their thoughts on the future of the professional game in Wales and the club’s role within it. These will now be submitted to the WRU by Scarlets as part of the consultation.
From the submissions, more than 97% either oppose the WRU’s optimal plan outright or can only support change if Scarlets’ unique identity and home is protected in a future structure.
Managing Director Jon Daniels said: “It’s been really heartening and a positive boost in challenging times to see the level of engagement and sentiment provided in the ‘Open Book’.
“The space was created to enable everyone connected with our rugby region to share their voice as part of the WRU’s consultation.
“The strength of our club comes not only from the players on the field, but also from the passion, backing, and commitment of our sponsors, partners, and supporters off it. Scarlets wanted to ensure the full picture is presented from across its community and every voice had a chance to be heard.
“What’s clear from the opinions shared is that there is huge value placed on Scarlets ability to anchor elite rugby in West Wales, to develop future talent, promote cultural identity and also economic growth across region.
“What also stands out is the amount of pride everyone has in our rich history and their overwhelming support for a bright future for professional rugby at Parc y Scarlets.”
