New Scarlets contract for Ben Williams!

Back-rower Ben Williams has become the latest player to sign a new contract with the Scarlets.

The 21-year-old has made 19 appearances for the senior side since joining in 2022 – 17 of those coming this season where he has grasped his opportunity in the United Rugby Championship and in Europe.

From Gilfach Goch, Williams joined the Scarlets from Aberavon where he won his Wales U20s cap and his tireless performances for Llanelli RFC in the Indigo Premiership saw him make his URC debut in the victory over Edinburgh in February 2023.

He is one of a number of young players who are making their mark for the Scarlets at the top level as head coach Dwayne Peel builds his squad for the coming seasons.

Ben said: ““I am delighted to have signed a new contract. I am fortunate to be training every day with some great players here and starting against the likes of Leinster, Castres and out in South Africa against the Bulls has been a massive learning experience. I’m striving to get better every day and make the most out of every opportunity.

“It’s surreal to think that a few years ago I was playing for Gilfach Goch and now signing a professional contract with a great club means the world to me and my family.

“It has been a privilege to wear the Scarlets jersey and to run out in front of the fans at the Parc. We’ve got some big games left at home this season and hopefully we can finish well with some strong performances.”

Head coach Dwayne Peel added: “It was only a few years ago that Ben was playing his club rugby for Gilfach Goch, he is a great example of a player who has worked hard and taken his opportunities, first of all in the Premiership and now in professional rugby.

“He is still only 21 and has played a lot of rugby for us this season. The great thing is there is so much more to come from Ben and I’m excited to see him develop in a Scarlets jersey.”

Ben is the latest player to have agreed a new contract, following Tom Rogers and Dan Davis. Cheetahs hooker Marnus van der Merwe is also heading to Llanelli in the summer, with new announcements due in the coming weeks.

The club would like to thank Ben’s player sponsor Lewis Construction for their ongoing support.
