Party Like It’s 2006: Scarlets v Newcastle to kick off Challenge Cup in style

Rob LloydNews

Dust off your flip phone and charge up the iPod — we are taking you back to 2006.

Scarlets’ opening-round clash against Newcastle Red Bulls in the EPCR Challenge Cup, Saturday, October 17, is set to be more than just a night of European rugby.

It’s time to Party Like It’s 2006!

Get ready for a Saturday night packed with nostalgia, memories and plenty of reasons to turn the clock back two decades.

Remember when your phone had buttons, your music lived on an iPod and low-rise jeans were the height of fashion?

For one night only, we’re bringing it all back.

Fans are encouraged to embrace the theme and dress like it’s 2006. Expect the atmosphere, music and entertainment to transport you back to a time when ringtones were a big deal, Facebook was still in its infancy and the Scarlets were making their mark on European rugby.

And what better occasion to do it than the opening night of this season’s EPCR Challenge Cup?

There’s an extra twist to this trip down memory lane.

Two men who were part of the Scarlets story in 2006 will now find themselves on opposite sides of the European battle — this time in the coaching boxes.

Stephen Jones and Dwayne Peel both wore the Scarlets jersey in 2006. Fast forward 20 years and the pair will be on opposing teams.

And the last time the Scarlets faced Newcastle? You guessed it, 2006!

So, whether you remember exactly where you were in 2006 or simply want to experience the decade that gave us flip phones, iPods and questionable fashion choices, Scarlets v Newcastle Red Bull is the place to be on Saturday, October 17.

Bring your friends. Bring your best 2006 outfit. Bring the nostalgia. And most importantly, bring your voice.
