Rhys Patchell to make comeback for Development side

Rob Lloyd News

Wales international Rhys Patchell is set to make his comeback from injury as the Scarlets Development side take on Dragons A at Rodney Parade on Friday evening (6pm ko).

It will be the fly-half’s first appearance of the season, having missed the opening block of the campaign because of a calf issue.

The 28-year-old takes his place in a youthful line-up that includes a host of the Scarlets’ up-and-coming young crop.

In the back three, Tom Rogers and Ryan Conbeer link up with Academy winger Callum Williams, who has crossed for four tries his last four matches for Llandovery RFC in the Welsh Premiership Cup.

Former Dragon Tyler Morgan combines with Joe Roberts in midfield, while Patchell links up with 18-year-old scrum-half Archie Hughes.

Up front, Kemsley Mathias, skipper Shaun Evans and Alex Jeffries pack down in the front row with locks Jac Price and Morgan Jones behind them.

Academy forward Caleb Salmon, Iestyn Rees and Carwyn Tuipulotu – who has recovered from a finger injury – make up a young back-row unit.

On the bench, Scarlets are grateful to Llandovery RFC for allowing forwards Osian Davies and Griff Evans to feature. Also named among the replacements are academy players, hooker Morgan Macrae, fly-half Josh Phillips and Wales U20s centre Eddie James.
