U18s stay in title hunt with dramatic Dragons draw

Scarlets U18s went head to head against the Dragons at Ystrad Mynach in a game that ended in a thrilling 24-24 draw.

Scarlets dominated the first half to lead 19-10 thanks to a try from centre Rhun Phillips and two from second row Aaron Howles. However, the Dragons showed great determination during the second period to force their way back.

A bonus-point try from scrum-half Harry Williams looked to have secured the Scarlets the win, only for the home side to snatch a draw in the dying seconds.

The result means the Scarlets stay in second place in the Championship table and face a title decider against Cardiff Blues at the Arms Park next Tuesday.

Reflecting on the performance, head coach Euros Evans said: “We played some excellent rugby in the first half and fully deserved the 19-0 interval lead.

“In fairness to the Dragons, they came back hard at us but to be leading by seven points with a minute to go and not to win the game is disappointing.

“However, the three points we secured away from home keeps us in the second position and a victory next week against the Blues will see us crowned as champions.”
