Wallaby star James O’Connor has been confirmed as part of the Barbarians squad heading to Parc y Scarlets for the Phil Bennett Memorial Game on September 16.
The 33-year-old playmaker, who can slot in across the backline, will be part of a international-studded invitational team that will be taking on Dwayne Peel’s Scarlets in Llanelli.
O’Connor has won 72 caps for Australia in a career that has seen him play at Western Force, Melbourne Rebels and more recently Queensland Reds in Super Rugby as well as spells at London Irish, Sale Sharks and Toulon in the northern hemisphere.
Pinpointed as a future Test star when he was still a teenager, he made his international debut in the green and gold at the age of 18 and started at fly-half in all three Tests against the British & Irish Lions in 2013.
O’Connor featured for Australia A in their recent clash with Sam Lousi and Vaea Fifita’s Tonga and will be one of the players hoping to receive a call-up to Eddie Jones’s Aussie squad should injury hit during the Rugby World Cup.
More names to feature for the Baa-baas will be confirmed over the coming days, but you can get your tickets now. Adult tickets start at £20 and can be bought from the Scarlets Ticket Office on 01554 292939 or by going to tickets.scarlets.wales
