Scarlets have added former Cardiff Met University captain Iwan Shenton to their squad for the coming season.

The 22-year-old has been training full-time with the squad at Parc y Scarlets this summer after impressing the coaching staff with his performances at University level.

A dynamic carrier, Shenton captained Cardiff Met University in 2021-22 and was nominated as one of the players of the season in the BUCS competition.

Scarlets Recruitment and Operations Officer James Davies said: “Iwan is a player who stood out in BUCs and has really impressed us in training with the senior group. He is a player with a lot of potential and we are looking forward to seeing how he develops within the squad over the course of the coming season.”

Shenton started out with Tonna RFC and has featured for Aberavon in the Indigo Premiership..

He said: “This is a massive opportunity for me here at the Scarlets. I’ve enjoyed getting stuck into pre-season and it’s been brilliant being able to develop my game and learn from the coaches and the players in the squad. I’m looking forward to the season kicking off this weekend.”
