Scarlets are delighted to announce the signing of exciting young Welsh-qualified full-back Ioan Jones from Gloucester.
A Junior World Cup winner with England U20s, Ioan qualifies for Wales through his father.
The 20-year-old has been part of the Gloucester Academy system since the age of 13 and played nine games for the senior Cherry and Whites side this season, including a couple of appearances in the Gallagher Premiership and a European debut in the Challenge Cup. Ioan has also featured for Harpurty in the English Championship.
Part of the Scarlets’ Senior Academy, Ioan will link up with the senior squad for pre-season training in the summer.
Head coach Dwayne Peel: “We are looking forward to welcoming Ioan to the Parc and it is great to see another young Welsh-qualified player committing to the Welsh game.
“Ioan is an exciting attacking player who has excelled at U20s level and has already had experience with Gloucester in the Premiership and Challenge Cup. He will add to an exciting young pool of back three players we have at the club.”
Scarlets Academy head coach Scott Sneddon said: “Ioan is a talented player with good fundamentals. He is a dangerous runner, with an excellent skillset and is good aerially. He has been part of a winning team with England U20s and was a real threat in the side that won the World Cup and the Six Nations last year.”
Ioan said: “I’m extremely excited to be joining Scarlets and be able to get the chance to play at Parc y Scarlets. Scarlets are a club with great history and an unbelievable fan base and I’m looking forward to ripping in come the start of the season.”
He added: “I’m excited to play under Dwayne Peel who has more than convinced me this is the right club to help take my game to the next level. To walk in the footsteps of so many legends like Jonathan Davies, Stephen Jones, Phil Bennett, is a hugely exciting prospect for me.
“The Scarlets are a young dynamic team that I’m looking forward to being a part of to continue their progression. I can’t wait to wear the Scarlets jersey and give my all to help the club succeed.”
Ioan becomes the fourth new addition for the 2025-26 season following Joe Hawkins, Jake Ball and Dane Blacker.
Macs Page, Tomi Lewis, Joe Roberts, Eddie James, Taine Plumtree, Kemsley Mathias and Sam Costelow have also signed new deals with the club.
More announcements will be made over the coming weeks.
