Scarlets have raised a glass to toast a new commercial partnership with Sporting Wine Club.

Sporting Wine Club source wines from vineyards around the world with an authentic sporting connection for each of them.

Some of the famous sporting personalities who have teamed up with SWC include football superstar Lionel Messi, Springbok rugby legend Schalk Burger, cricketing greats Ian Botham and Bob Willis and British Open golf winner Louis Oosthuizen.

The company also contributes to charity through various activities and vineyard visits and will be working with the Scarlets to fund their charitable work.

Co-founded by former England international Simon Halliday, who hails from West Wales, Sporting Wine Club are sponsoring Scarlets’ Wales international second row Jake Ball for the 2019-20 season.

The company recently hosted an evening for coaches and sponsors at Parc y Scarlets and their wines will be available at hospitality and lounges at the stadium this season.

Commenting on the two-year deal with Scarlets, CEO Simon Halliday said: “I was born in Haverfordwest and so feel a real connection with this part of the world.  I also played many times for Bath against Llanelli in the amateur era.

“Rugby is in my blood and an association with such a club is a wonderful opportunity to share original Estate wines with a true rugby community.

“Some of the greatest names to pull on a Welsh rugby jersey played for this great club and we look forward to delivering a memorable off-field experience to match the quality of the rugby.

“Our wines all tell an original sporting story, whether rugby, cricket, golf, American Football or tennis. We thank Scarlets for this opportunity.”

James Bibby, head of commercial for Scarlets Rugby, said: “We are delighted to welcome Sporting Wine Club to the Scarlets family.

“We are used to hosting some big sporting names at Parc y Scarlets and I am sure our supporters will enjoy the quality of wines that we will have here courtesy of Sporting Wine Club.”
