Uzair Cassiem named Intersport Scarlets player of the month for January

Uzair Cassiem has topped the fans vote for the Intersport Player of the Month for January.

The Springbok international has enjoyed an outstanding season and maintained those lofty standards in the matches against Cardiff Blues, Toulon and London Irish at the start of the new year.

Only Zebre’s Giovanni Licata has made more carries in the Guinness PRO14 than Cassiem, while the 29-year-old back-rower is also second in the carrying chart after the pool stages of the European Challenge Cup.

Cassiem edged out wing Steff Evans in the voting with forwards Aaron Shingler and Tevita Ratuva also among the nominees.

The fans favourite follows in the footsteps of previous monthly winners Kieran Hardy (October), Josh Macleod (November) and Leigh Halfpenny (December).

Keep an eye on our social media channels for the February vote, which will include the PRO14 matches against Edinburgh, Southern Kings and Munster.
