An impressive crop of Academy players were in action in Super Rygbi Cymru on Saturday with Llandovery defeated in the capital and Carmarthen Quins continuing their unbeaten home record this season.

Tiaan Sparrow was on the scoresheet, racing over in the corner late on, in the Drovers’ 37-28 loss to Cardiff. Sparrow made his mark as a second-half replacement, with prop Josh Morse, hooker Harry Thomas, lock Dan Gemine, fly-half Steff Jac Jones (pictured) – who landed a couple of conversions – and full-back Jac Davies starting the match along with senior backs Macs Page and Tomi Lewis. Second row Kai Jones and prop Gabe Hawley featured as replacements

At Carmarthen Park, Iori Badham marked his return from injury with a late try in the Quins’ 19-10 win over RGC. Hooker Isaac Young crossed in the first half for a home side that included centre Gabe McDonald, wing Thomas Williams, fly-half Carwyn Leggatt-Jones (who kicked a couple of conversions) and prop Sam O’Connor. Along with Badham, lock Sam Williams and fly-half Elis Price came off the bench, while there was also a replacement appearance for senior prop Harri O’Connor.

In the WRU Premiership, loose-head prop Tom Phillips was a replacement in Llanelli Wanderers’  impressive 31-24 win over Bargoed at Stradey, while fellow front-rower Jac Pritchard played for Narberth in their loss at Merthyr.

Meanwhile, centre Gryff Watkins was in BUCS Super Rugby action for Cardiff University in their win over Leeds Beckett on Wednesday.
