Academy Watch: Elis kicks match-winner for Quins

Carmarthen Quins celebrated a stunning late victory over Cardiff at the Arms Park in the second round of Super Rygbi Cymru with Scarlets’ young guns playing their part.

Flanker Ben Williams produced the standout moment, leaping to gather a cross-kick for a stunning first-half try; Academy wing Thomas Williams showed impressive pace to slice open the Cardiff defence for a second half score, then fly-half Elis Price held his nerve to nail the match-winning penalty with the final kick of the match to secure a 36-33 win.

Senior prop Sam O’Connor continued his return from a hamstring injury with a first start of the season, while Rhodri Lewis wore the No. 9 jersey.

It was another thriller at Church Bank with Llandovery making it two wins from two, edging out Swansea 34-31.

Academy back-rower Dom Kossuth caught the eye with a first-half try, while there were also  starts for North Walian second row Dylan Alford and fellow lock Dan Gemine, who is part of the extended Academy group. Prop Tom Phillips came off the bench.

Llangennech put in a gutsy display in difficult conditions against Premiership big-hitters Pontypridd. Wing Callum Woolley, centre Gryff Watkins – making his return from injury – and second row Kai Jones started for Llan.

In the WRU Championship West, Keanu Evans and Tiaan Sparrow were in action for Ammanford in their thumping 62-24 win over Crymych. In the same division fly-half Steff Jac Jones made his comeback from injury for Aberystwyth in their home loss to Dunvant.
