CAIS! Schools Programme Launch

Rob Lloyd Community News

Today the Scarlets, in partnership with Ysgol Trimsaran and Ysgol Llangynnwr launched CAIS! a new education programme; aimed at key stage 2 pupils in schools across the region.

The six week programme includes lesson plans written by teachers for teachers and is relevant to the National Curriculum, with every lesson linking to the framework.  The materials, developed by Scarlets Project Co-ordinator Rhodri Jones and teachers, Dafydd Humphreys and Rhodri Evans gives a comprehensive resource package for both classroom and playground based activities.

The launch was an opportunity to present to Head Teachers from the region and gain valued feedback regarding programme content and how this will be shaped.

Nia Lloyd, Community Partnership Manager for the Scarlets said “Whilst working with teachers in the region over the last five years, we understand that teaching methods are changing and as a professional sports club, it is no longer enough to work with schools; delivering basic skills in the playground.  We understand how diverse we are as a business and can provide a richer learning experience for the pupil, through engaging with rugby on different levels.”

Dafydd Humphreys from Ysgol Trimsaran and one of the resource developers, adds “The chance to work with a global brand like the scarlets to help develop skills in and out of the classroom was an opportunity to good to turn down. This is a great opportunity for schools to get involved with an exciting programme and I look to seeing the project develop.”
