It proved a tough round of action for our Super Rygbi Cymru sides with Carmarthen Quins falling to defeat at Newport and Llandovery well beaten by league leaders Ebbw Vale at Church Bank.

In all, there were 15 Senior Academy players involved in both games, highlighting the Scarlets’ commitment to the SRC in bringing through our young talent.

Iori Badham, Gabe McDonald, Elis Price, Rhodri Lewis, Sam Williams, Thomas WIlliams and Callum Woolley were all part of the Quins squad who went down to a 33-7 loss to the Black and Ambers.

At Llandovery, Will Evans, Dan Gemine (pictured), Gryff Watkins and Jac Davies started in the 41-14 loss to the Steelmen, with Harry Thomas, Tom Phillips, Gabe Hawley and Dom Kossuth coming off the replacements’ bench.

There was no action for Llanelli Wanderers or Llangennech in the WRU Premiership – both their fixtures were postponed due to frozen pitches.

Ammanford enjoyed an impressive 33-10 win at Trebanos with Academy full-back Sion Jones and flanker Tian Sparrow in the starting line-up. There was also a club debut for U18s front-row prospect Hudson Nevin.

On New Year’s Day, 18-year-old fly-half Carwyn Leggatt-Jones and prop Josh Morse made their second URC appearances of the season, coming off the bench in the second half of Scarlets’ defeat to the Dragons at Rodney Parade.

Meanwhile, the second block of the WRU Academies Championship kicks off on Sunday when the Scarlets entertain RGC at Llandovery RFC.
