Former Scarlets and Wales coach Gareth Jenkins was the first guest speaker at our Sporting Memories Group, recounting some wonderful tales of his Stradey Park days.

From being involved as a young player in the famous 1972 All Blacks triumph to helping mastermind the incredible win over the Wallabies in 1992, Gareth took the group behind the scenes with some stories of memorable victories and larger-than-life characters.

Gareth made 262 appearances for Llanelli and was coach of the club for an astonishing 936 matches, guiding the side to league and cup triumphs and European semi-finals.

He was also assistant coach of the British & Irish Lions in 2005 and head coach of the Wales national team from 2006-2007.

Sporting Memories is a charity which operates free community-based clubs all across Great Britain that welcome older people that have a passion for sport and want to make friends and connections in their local community.

The club uses the power of remembering and talking about sport alongside physical activity to support people aged over 50 to live better lives, including those living with dementia, depression, or living in isolation and lonely circumstances.

The group meets every Wednesday in the Parc y Scarlets cafe at 11am. Entry and refreshments are free of charge.
