“I’m absolutely loving it,” says Prydie

Scarlets winger Tom Prydie was one of thirteen Scarlets named in Warren Gatland’s Wales squad for this summer’s tour of the Americas earlier this week, five years after his last international appearance.

26-year-old Prydie returned to fitness earlier than expected to feature in Scarlets’ Guinness PRO14 quarter-final victory over Cheetahs a few weeks ago, crossing the whitewash for his fourth try of the season.

An ankle injury sustained against Leinster in February looked set to bring on a premature end to his debut season with the Scarlets but the Bridgend born winger has recovered just in time for the knockout stages of the competition.

Looking ahead to the semi final against Glasgow Prydie said; “It was a bit of a race to get back. It has been a lot of hard work from the physios and conditioners to get me back a little sooner than planned.

“We know they’re a great team, especially at home. They have a very dangerous back three. It’s a big challenge for us but we’re looking forward to it and we’re going to have to be at our best.”

Commenting on his Wales call-up, after winning his last cap on the 2013 summer tour to Japan, Prydie went on to say; “I think that’s credit to the coaches here and the environment I’m in every day. I’m learning off world-class players and world-class coaches. It’s been almost like a fresh start and I’m absolutely loving it.

“It’s going to be a big challenge for me but I’m excited for it. It’s been a few years since I was last involved in a campaign and I’m looking forward to it. It’s a huge privilege to be selected and when you do get picked it’s a confidence boost aswell.”

Glasgow v Scarlets, Guinness PRO14 semi final, Friday 18th May at Scotstoun Stadium, kick-off 19:45.
