Ryan Elias is looking forward to pulling on the Scarlets jersey again after linking up with the squad ahead of Friday night’s European Challenge Cup clash with Toulon.

The Wales hooker is in contention for round two tie in the south of France as the Scarlets look to build on their opening win against London Irish.

Ryan was one of 11 Scarlets who were part of the Welsh challenge at the Rugby World Cup in Japan, but after featuring in just one match – the win over Uruguay – he is desperate to get back out on the field.

“It is great to be back,” said the 24-year-old

“Obviously with Brad and the new coaching team here a few things have changed; it is a great environment to be part of and the boys have been enjoying it judging by the messages I was having when I was in Japan.

“It has been a great start on the field as well, the boys are flying, they have set a high standard so we know we have got to be at our best when we come back.”

Reflecting on his first World Cup experience, Ryan added: “Japan was fantastic, experiencing the different culture and everything.

“Obviously, I was delighted to be selected in the 31-man squad, but you are always wanting more. I had one game against Uruguay and that was pretty frustrating.

“I have had a couple of weeks off now to clear the head and I am ready to go again. Hopefully I can take some frustration out against some Toulon boys.”

Looking forward taking on the three-times European champions at the Stade Mayol, Ryan added: “Toulon is a brilliant place to play. It is going to be a tough game, but you wouldn’t want it any other way.

“I am just excited to be back out there and getting some game time.

“The boys got the job done against London Irish in round one and hopefully we can continue the good start out in Toulon.”
