Scarlets and local clubs join forces to deliver Christmas hampers

Rob Lloyd News

Scarlets are again teaming up with their community of grassroots clubs to deliver Christmas hampers over the festive period.

Scarlets staff, with the help of members of the senior squad, have been putting together a total of 490 hampers this week. They will be delivering the food packages to the local rugby clubs, who have chosen individuals and families from their communities who have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Scarlets Community Foundation, the charity arm of the Scarlets, co-ordinated the deliveries of more than 800 care packages during the first wave of Covid, with individuals, families and care homes benefiting from the donations.

The foundation, thanks to further generosity of individual donors, are hitting the road again this week with 37 clubs and female hubs across our three counties — Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion — taking part in the scheme.

Scarlets chief operating officer Phil Morgan said: “Community has always been a huge part of what we are at the Scarlets and even more so this year when Covid has affected so many individuals and families across our region.

“For us, the support we have had from the Scarlets family has been incredible during these challenging times and thanks to everyone involved in the scheme, we are able to give a little something back over the Christmas period.”
